About 45% of Peru’s population are indigenous peasants that can trace their history back 11,000 years. Theirs is a culture where visiting the local witch or ‘Currandero’ for bespoke spells is as natural as visiting the doctor; where families have lived for generations on islands of floating reeds, and where festival performers dance uninterrupted for weeks on end.
Despite the country’s economic development, access to education, intermarriage and large scale migration, the unique knowledge, skills and practices of the indigenous peasants remain untouched, high in the Peruvian Andes. |
